The Thacher School is one of the most selective and highly regarded boarding schools in the nation. Founded in 1889 by Sherman Day Thacher, the School serves academically talented students from over 20 states and close to 10 countries in a rigorous college preparatory experience. The faculty and students live and work closely together on a 427-acre campus nestled in the foothills of the Los Padres National Forest in Ojai, California (85 miles north of Los Angeles). Thacher seeks a part-time experienced teacher of psychology for a long-term substitute position beginning (ideally) in mid-December of 2026 and continuing through March 8, 2027. Candidates who are not available in person until January 5, 2027 will also be considered.

SUMMARY OF PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach 2-3 sections of honors psychology. The teacher will make use of established lesson plans and curriculum delivering and adapting course content as needed to allow for continuity of learning during this period. 
  • Fulfill all responsibilities of a classroom teacher, including student support through regular extra help sessions, providing timely feedback and grades, submitting midterm grades and trimester grades and comments.
  • Depending on the experience and interests of the candidate, there is a possibility for additional duties in our residential program.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor’s degree (B.A.)  or equivalent required in psychology or a related field. 
  • Ideal candidate should have successful experience teaching at the high school level.

COMPENSATION RANGE
Compensation range is $10,000-15,000. Final salary is based on the number of sections and outside duties the candidate takes on and experience relevant to the role and internal equity. This is a non housed position.
