The Thacher School is one of the most selective and highly regarded boarding schools in the nation. Founded in 1889 by Sherman Day Thacher, the school serves 260 academically talented students from twenty four states and nine countries in a rigorous college preparatory experience. Fifty-one percent of students identify as people of color. The faculty and students live and work closely together on a 427-acre campus nestled in the foothills of the Los Padres National Forest in Ojai, California (85 miles north of Los Angeles). The Health Center Registered Nurse is responsible for creating an atmosphere that provides for continuity of quality physical and emotional care for all members of The Thacher School student body.
Summary of responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with the campus physician, director of health services, assistant director of the health center, primary care physicians, parents, faculty, administration, and other members of the Health Center team to provide quality healthcare to students while on campus.
- Responsible for the routine care and triage of student medical complaints with subsequent follow-up planning as needed.
- Administer students daily controlled and non-controlled prescription medications with emphasis on student compliance and the prevention of medication diversion on campus.
- Able to recognize emergent situations and when to escalate care
- Responsible for performing CLIA waived laboratory testing
- Assess, observe, and care for individuals in quarantine/isolation on campus. Must be comfortable working with Personal Protective Equipment to ensure the safety of oneself and others.
- Schedule medical, dental, psychiatric, orthodontic, physical therapy, and other health related appointments for students as needed.
- Ensure required medical document compliance and subsequent management and dissemination (in accordance with HIPAA regulations) of all information regarding healthcare records using our electronic health portal.
- On-board new and returning students to the electronic health portal and assist parents in uploading required documentation.
- Maintain an up-to-date electronic MAR within electronic health portal to keep track of daily prescription medications with particular emphasis given to medication compliance, timely refill acquisition, and communication with prescribing doctor(s) as needed.
- Prompt email and phone communication as needed regarding student injury/illness with faculty and parents.
- Ensure HIPAA-compliant documentation across various spreadsheets to assist in the tracking of allergies, dietary preferences, daily follow ups, long term injury plans, off-campus appointments, camping program accommodations, etc.
- Bachelor’s degree in the science of nursing or greater preferred.
- Current, unrestricted California Registered Nursing License.
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical practice in an acute care setting preferred.
- Current BLS for Healthcare Provider.
- Experience with adolescents in a healthcare setting preferred
- Ability to triage a variety of urgent and non-urgent medical ailments with the accompanying clinical judgment to know what requires a higher level of care.

The salary range for this position is approximately $50-55 hourly. Final salary is based on experience relevant to the role and internal equity. Thacher offers a competitive total rewards package, which includes a 403(b) match, healthcare coverage, and a broad range of other benefits.
